Why I built it · 01

I was shopping for health insurance for two adults. The comparison sites gave me three results that weren’t even the same tier as each other, and I had a folder of policy documents I couldn’t line up. Nobody was answering the question I actually cared about: which funds are run for their members? So I built the finder I wanted — and put it online for everyone.

What it does · 02

Five questions, then the policies that fit

Cover type, state, household, hospital tier and your monthly budget. That’s it — no account, no email, no phone call from a broker.

Not-for-profit funds, ranked on ethics

The top three member-owned funds are scored on complaints, on how much of your premium they pay back in benefits, and on reputation — alongside the price.

The for-profit policies side by side

Twelve Silver Plus policies from the big for-profit funds, priced for your state and household, with plain-English picks: best value, best budget, one to avoid.

See what the rebate does to the bill

Switch the government rebate tier or run the Lifetime Health Cover calculator and every price on the page updates. A glossary explains every term you’ll meet on the way.

A finder, not advice · 02.1

Iaso narrows the field; it doesn’t pick the policy. Every premium is shown before the government rebate, and the data comes from published sources that can change. Confirm the details with the fund or at privatehealth.gov.au before you buy — Iaso isn’t financial or insurance advice.

Questions · 03

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no affiliate links, and no fund pays for placement. If it saves you money there’s a tip jar, but that’s entirely up to you.

Where do the numbers come from?

Premiums come from the Private Health Insurance Schedule published by privatehealth.gov.au, benefit payout ratios from APRA and complaints from the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman. The dates are shown on each page.

Why rank on ethics?

Because price alone hides a lot. A member-owned fund with low complaints that pays a high share of premiums back in benefits is a different proposition from one that doesn’t — Iaso puts that next to the price so you can weigh both.

Is it insurance advice?

No. It’s a comparison tool. Check the details with the fund, use the ATO rebate calculator for your own income, and get a live quote before you buy.

Does it cover my state?

All states and territories, for singles, couples, families and single-parent families.
