Case study · Web design · Bella Groove · 2014

Elise Walsh is a brilliant jazz singer, flautist and musical coach. Bella Groove needed a first proper web presence — one that showed off her performances and worked for the people who book her.

This site was rebuilt in 2026 — that has its own case study.

The brief · 01

Elise wanted a website that appealed to both music managers and students. Many visitors would be on mobile devices, so the site had to look right on every screen size, and the content was heavy on music and video.

Beyond the build, Elise wanted to update the content herself: adding new gigs and blogging about a range of musical interests were all part of the brief.

What I did · 02

  • Content first. I helped Elise start writing, and at the same time shot new photos that showed off her bubbly personality and jazzy style.
  • Video from the room. Elise was playing venues around Canberra, so I went along and captured shows on HD video to sit alongside her demo catalogue.
  • Editable by the band. Gigs, music and the blog were all set up so Elise could keep the site current without me.
  • A wider audience. With the site live, I helped set up a Facebook page and a SoundCloud account, and made incremental improvements in the years after.

What it took

Visual design, website design and development on WordPress, photography, HD video and motion graphics, and audio mixing and mastering for the recordings.

Outcome

Live in 2014 and running for twelve years — long enough to earn the search rankings the 2026 rebuild was designed to keep.
